The scars of the Spanish Civil War continued to be visible long after the war was over. Indeed, the military dictatorship that followed rejoiced in acts of degradation of the other side that lost the war. Reconciliation was then impossible.

Furthermore, when Spain was able to recover democracy, the political establishment decided to leave behind those scars in order to construct a new civic society.

Nevertheless, many Spaniards still keep feelings of retribution, even those who did not participate neither lived through that time.

The opportunity for reconciliation and dialogue could now, more than ever before, culminate through historical preservation and interpretation
